Hi, I’m Paul 👋
IT Infrastructure Engineer · Microsoft 365 · Cloud · Security · Virtualisation
I’m an IT Infrastructure Engineer with many years of hands-on experience supporting, troubleshooting, designing and migrating business IT systems.
My experience stretches from desktop support and networking through to Windows Server, Microsoft 365, cloud infrastructure, virtualisation, cyber security and disaster recovery.
But the part of IT I’ve always enjoyed most is simple:
Solving problems.
Sometimes that’s designing a completely new solution. Sometimes it’s migrating hundreds of users to a new platform.
And sometimes it’s discovering why something that worked perfectly yesterday has suddenly decided that today…
No. Absolutely not. I’m not working.
Welcome to IT. 😄
🧭 How I Work
Good IT isn’t just about knowing the technology.
It’s about understanding the problem you’re actually trying to solve.
Before recommending a solution, I want to understand the business, its users, the existing infrastructure and the risks involved.
Three things feature heavily in the way I work:
📋 Plan
Understand the environment, dependencies and risks before making significant changes.
⚙️ Automate
If a repetitive task can be performed reliably using PowerShell or another automation tool, I’ll look at automating it.
🧪 Test
For significant production changes, I want a plan, testing, documentation and — importantly — a way back if something doesn’t go as expected.
And if I don’t know something?
I’ll research it. Build a lab. Test it. Break it. Fix it. Learn it.
Technology changes far too quickly for anyone to pretend they know everything.
🧰 Technologies I Work With
Over the years I’ve worked across a broad range of technologies and environments.
☁️ Microsoft & Cloud
Microsoft 365 · Azure · Microsoft Entra ID · Intune · Exchange · Active Directory · Windows Server · PowerShell
🖥️ Infrastructure & Virtualisation
Hyper-V · VMware · Scale Computing · Server Infrastructure · Storage · Backup · Disaster Recovery
🔐 Networking & Security
Firewalls · VPN · LAN/WAN · DNS · DHCP · Wi-Fi · MFA · Conditional Access · Email Security
🐧 Linux & Web
Ubuntu · Apache · Linux CLI · Bash · WordPress · Nextcloud · Web Hosting
Products change. Fundamentals don’t.
Understanding how systems work — and knowing how to troubleshoot them when they don’t — is considerably more valuable than memorising where the buttons are.
🏢 Real-World Experience
I’ve worked with organisations ranging from small businesses through to environments supporting hundreds of users.
My background includes experience within education, managed service provider environments and directly supporting business IT infrastructure.
🏫 Education
Supporting diverse environments where IT teams often need to know a little bit about almost everything.
🛠️ Managed Services
Working across multiple customers, technologies and environments where troubleshooting quickly and accurately matters.
🏢 Business Infrastructure
Supporting, maintaining and improving the systems organisations depend upon every day.

📚 Don’t Just Take My Word for It
It’s easy to put a list of technologies on a website.
I’d rather show examples of how I’ve actually used them.
Some of the environments I’ve worked with can’t be discussed publicly in detail, particularly where security or confidentiality is involved.
Where possible, I’ve created anonymised Case Studies explaining the challenge, the planning, the technology, the implementation and the eventual outcome.
These aren’t hypothetical projects. They’re examples of real problems I’ve helped solve.
🚀 Never Stop Learning
One thing I learned very early in my career is that IT doesn’t stand still.
The technology you’re supporting today may be completely different in five years’ time.
Personally, that’s one of the things I enjoy about the industry.
I’m regularly experimenting with new technologies, building lab environments, testing operating systems, writing scripts and finding better ways of doing things.
Sometimes those experiments work beautifully.
Sometimes they break spectacularly.
Either way, I’ve usually learned something.
🌐 Why I Built This Site
This website serves two purposes.
📖 Share What I’ve Learned
It’s somewhere I can publish IT guides, troubleshooting information and solutions I’ve discovered while working with technology.
If something I’ve spent three hours troubleshooting saves somebody else those same three hours…
That’s a result.
🛠️ Offer IT Services
It’s also a home for my independent IT services and somewhere businesses can find help with their technology.
Alongside that, the site has naturally become a portfolio of some of the projects and technologies I’ve worked with throughout my career.
👋 Let’s Talk
Looking for IT help?
If you’re a small business looking for IT support, planning a project, struggling with an existing problem or simply looking for some advice, I’d be happy to hear from you.
Here because of my professional experience?
If you’re considering me for a technical role, have a look through my Case Studies and IT Guides. They’ll probably tell you considerably more about how I approach IT than a collection of buzzwords on a CV.
