🩺 Diagnosis Before Repair
There’s little point replacing parts until you know what’s actually wrong.
I’ll diagnose the problem first and explain what I’ve found, what the repair is likely to involve and whether spending money on the machine makes sense.
Just because something can be repaired doesn’t necessarily mean it should be.
If an ageing computer needs an expensive repair and your money would be better spent towards a replacement, I’ll tell you.
Equally, I don’t believe in replacing perfectly usable computers simply because they’re a few years old. Sometimes a sensible repair or upgrade is all that’s needed.
🚀 Upgrades Can Make a Big Difference
A computer that feels slow isn’t necessarily ready for retirement.
Depending on the machine, upgrading components such as the storage or memory can dramatically improve performance and potentially extend its useful life.
💾 SSD Upgrades
Replacing an older mechanical hard drive with a solid-state drive can significantly improve startup times and general responsiveness.
🧠 Memory Upgrades
Where supported, additional memory can improve performance when running multiple applications or working with more demanding software.
📁 What About My Files?
Your documents, photographs and other personal files may be considerably more valuable to you than the computer itself.
Where a repair involves storage, Windows or other work that could affect your data, I’ll discuss the situation with you before carrying out the work.
If the computer is still accessible, it’s always a good idea to make sure important files are backed up before any repair or upgrade.
🏠 Home Visit or Take Away for Repair
Some problems can be diagnosed and resolved during a home visit.
For repairs requiring more time, replacement components or additional testing, I may be able to take the equipment away and return it once the work has been completed.
I’ll always discuss this with you first so you know what’s happening with your equipment.
🛡️ Repair Warranty
Repairs are covered by a 12-month warranty on the work carried out.
The warranty applies to the repair and work originally agreed and does not cover unrelated faults, accidental damage, misuse or other components that were not part of the original repair.
